Tell us about yourself.
I’m a woman in long term recovery, a mom to a high energy amazing boy, wife to a man who embraces my crazy and anchors me and someone who values spirituality above all else.
How did you get into your business?
I started making jewelry as gifts for my Essential oil customers, I decided it’s something I enjoyed thoroughly and it sparked me more than selling oils so I decided to switch gears pursue it wholeheartedly and fine tune my skill.
What has been your biggest challenge?
Balance, owning a business is so much different from working for someone else’s company. It’s much more time consuming in the beginning and when it’s fueled by passion and excitement sometimes other priorities like family and self care get pushed aside. Finding balance in business and personal priorities is one of the hardest parts.
What do you wish you’d known when you started?
That obsession doesn’t equal success.
If you could narrow your success down to one thing, what would it be?
That’s a hard one, it’s really a result of many things. If I had to narrow it down it would be Perseverance and research lots and lots of time researching and absorbing as much information as possible. Not only on your trade or skill but on all areas of business. Accounting, inventory, state taxes, SEO, Etsy, advertising, trends, product photography, pricing ect.
Where do you see yourself in a year?
Still doing what I love handcrafting jewelry!
What are your top three tips for women starting a business?
- Just start! Many times I thought it had to be just right or I planned and planned and never acted. It doesn’t have to be perfection. The doing is where you learn the most.
- Second If you start a business Run it like a business, it’s so easy to get caught up in the hobby side of it and buy supplies cause we personally like them or make something we love and take it personal when it’s not successful. Separate the two.
- make smart financial business choices don’t run on hopes and dreams alone, don’t put yourself into massive debt trying to get it off the ground in the hope that one day it will all be worth it and pay off. You’ll end up hating it.
What is a typical day for you like?
My daily routine; Wake up, then coffee and meditation, texting and connecting with my recovery support group. Next Mom routine and school drop off! Once that’s done I get ready for my day and then sit down at my desk and start work while everyone is away, fulfilling orders, making jewelry, taking product photos, planning social media posts and interacting with my amazing customers. Then I wrap up before school pick up and give my family the rest of my day. At the end of the day I make a list for the next day. Sometimes that’s work sometimes it’s regular life stuff. Lists keep me sane!
What’s your business motto or quote you live by?
Embrace what makes you unique.
If you were starting your business over again, what would you do differently?
Honestly nothing it’s been a journey and I’ve loved all the ups and downs.
